This research aims to be a contribution to teacher formation in Chile, bringing attention to professional identity elaboration and focusing on a set of distinctive features of this process in the case of Pedagogy students of the University of Antofagasta. Its purpose is guiding initial teacher training according to the requirements of the Teacher Professional Development System imposed by law 20,903. This study is based on the descriptive transversal phenomenological paradigm. Main results relate training experience meaning and social integration as a future teacher to student´s vocation. Tensions associated with the training and mobilization of competencies are evidenced.
