The legal framework for preventing adolescent pregnancy in Chile
Abstract
The International Convention for Children’s Rights ratified by Chile, and the International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, signed by Chile, provides a regulatory framework for sexual and reproductive rights that guarantees confidentiality and access to health care for adolescents. The Chilean Sexual Offences Act, which requires mandatory reporting including consensual sexual activity in children under 14 years, may hamper confidentiality offered by care health providers to the most vulnerable adolescents.
