The modern woman in La última niebla and La bella durmiente: the tension between “must be” and “want to be”

Abstract

This is an essay that seeks to address the development of the figure of women in modernization by Latin American authors: María Luisa Bombal and Rosario Ferré. Through the protagonists of La última niebla and La bella durmiente, we seek to evince the tension that occurs with the desire of these when confronted with their realities, how this tension is resolved, as well as a response to why of this resolution for each protagonist.
