Abstract

Young transgender people show a series of intrapsychic, interrelational, physical and legal changes. However, despite they have been partly accepted, they are still rejected and even they seem to be invisible in some cases. The objective of this research is to describe how transgender youth people experience their gender expression in the context of social inclusion in Chile, delving into topics such as: queer theory, gender identity, gender expression processes, disclosure, social support networks, social inclusion and heteronormativity. The study is developed from the socioconstructionist paradigm, using the grounded theory as a method to be applied, which were carried out semi-structured interviews with young transgender people between eighteen and twenty four years old. Among the main results, it can be seen that the inclusion context has a direct impact on the gender expression of transgender youth. The majority of the interviewees reported a widespread discontent in terms of social inclusion in Chile, where the transgender community is not visible.
